Coldharbour Mill Working Wool Museum

Georgian Spinning Mill built in 1799 with working Worsted Spinning Machines and Hattersley Power Looms which demonstrate the spinning process from tops (combed fleeces) to knitting wool and the weaving process from wool to stair runner and tartan cloth. Demonstrations of hand spinning and weaving also available on request.
Guided tour of mill includes demonstration of early carding engine and spinning mule from Victorian times and an actor leads a Victorian Drama as 'Mr Robson' the Mill Manager interviewing children to work at the mill and showing them what the work involves. The drama lasts approximately 1.5 hours and the tour another 1 hour. The mill's waterwheel continues to be used to power the spinning machines and the steam complex used after 1865 can be viewed. A room is provided for the school's use to store bags etc and to have lunch. There is a restaurant/cafe on site if required.
